Somerset County’s Most Trusted Electrician
Local Electrician — Bridgewater Township, NJ
Bridgewater Township was chartered by Royal Charter on April 4, 1749 — the same day as neighboring Bedminster Township — and incorporated as one of New Jersey’s first 104 townships in 1798. Named after the English port town of Bridgwater in Somerset, England, this Bridgewater also sits along a major river: the Raritan forms its southern boundary. From this original township, much of Somerset County grew: Warren Township, Branchburg Township, the Borough of Somerville, the Borough of Raritan, and Bound Brook were all carved from Bridgewater’s territory over two centuries.
Today Bridgewater covers 32.5 square miles with 46,000+ residents — the second-largest municipality in Somerset County and the largest in our service area. It’s the county’s commercial hub: Bridgewater Commons (the regional mall), the I-287/I-78 interchange, Route 22 and Route 202/206 commercial corridors, TD Bank Ballpark (Somerset Patriots), and major corporate campuses including the Verizon Wireless complex in Martinsville. We are based in Martinsville — the hilly northeastern section of Bridgewater at the foot of the Watchung Mountains, ZIP 08836 — and our response to anywhere in the township is under 10 minutes.
We’ve pulled hundreds of Bridgewater permits through 100 Commons Way. Every inspection in this township has been coordinated with Construction Official John Tillotson. We have never failed a Bridgewater inspection in 20 years. Request your free estimate or call directly.

Bridgewater Township Neighborhoods
Bridgewater’s 32.5 square miles contain more distinct neighborhoods than any other municipality we serve — from executive hilltop estates in Martinsville to the diverse, dense community in Finderne:
Our home base. Northeastern Bridgewater at the Watchung Mountain foothills. Large wooded lots, executive colonials, the Verizon Wireless campus, Chimney Rock Crossing (Whole Foods, Nordstrom Rack). Washington Valley Road and Chimney Rock Road are the main corridors. Sub-5-minute response from here.
The commercial and civic core of Bridgewater. Bridgewater Commons mall, Township Hall at 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater-Raritan High School. Dense residential streets mix with major commercial corridors along I-287.
Southeastern Bridgewater, bordered by Bound Brook and Somerville. Diverse community; TD Bank Ballpark (Somerset Patriots); Middlebrook Crossing industrial park; Promenade shopping center. Multi-unit housing near the Raritan River.
Built around a man-made lake at the northern tip of Bridgewater, near the I-287/I-78 interchange. Some residents carry a Basking Ridge ZIP (07920). Wooded, lakeside properties with elevated electrical needs.
Southwestern Bridgewater along Route 28. Established post-war residential neighborhood. Borders Raritan and Somerville to the south. Classic mid-20th century colonials and ranches now reaching panel upgrade age.
Central-western Bridgewater. Primarily residential with 1960s-1980s colonials and split-levels. Panel upgrades, aluminum wiring remediation, and EV charger installations are common requests in this section.

Why Bridgewater Chooses Us
Our business is based in Martinsville (ZIP 08836). Our trucks park in Bridgewater every night. Our owner’s kids attend Bridgewater-Raritan schools. We vote, pay taxes, and invest here. When a Bridgewater homeowner calls us with an emergency at 2:00 a.m., we arrive in under 10 minutes because we are already here. That is not replicable by any competitor who drives in from another county.
Bridgewater’s housing spans more eras than any other municipality we serve. The oldest homes in Bradley Gardens and Finderne date to the 1940s-1950s with original 60-amp service and knob-and-tube wiring. Country Club area 1960s-1970s homes have aluminum wiring. Martinsville executive colonials (1980s-2000s) need panel expansion for EV chargers. The newest Bridgewater construction requires smart home integration and 400-amp service. We know all of them. We assess correctly and recommend the appropriate work — not the most expensive option.
Bridgewater Commons (the regional mall), Route 22 commercial strip, Finderne industrial zone, TD Bank Ballpark, and major corporate campuses all generate substantial commercial electrical work. Panel upgrades for growing businesses, equipment circuits for manufacturers, tenant fit-outs for retail, and data center power for tech campuses are regular services in our Bridgewater portfolio. We are licensed for commercial work throughout the township and know the Code Enforcement Department’s commercial review process.
Bridgewater sits at the intersection of I-287 and I-78, with Route 22 and Route 202/206 running through. The Verizon Wireless campus in Martinsville employs thousands of professionals. The Raritan Valley Line serves Bridgewater commuters to New York. This combination of highway access and professional workforce makes Bridgewater the highest EV adoption community in Somerset County. EV charger installation is our most active Bridgewater service. We manage everything: Bridgewater permit, 100 Commons Way inspection, PSE&G rebate documentation.
Local Expertise
Bridgewater Township was chartered the same day as Bedminster (April 4, 1749) from the Northern Precinct of Somerset County. In the century and a half that followed, every major municipality in the eastern and central parts of the county was carved from Bridgewater’s original territory: Warren Township (1806), Branchburg Township (1846), the Borough of Somerville (1863), the Borough of Raritan, and Bound Brook. Bridgewater is where Somerset County’s residential geography started.
That founding era produced the Middlebrook encampment site, where General Washington and his Continental Army wintered in 1778-1779. The Thirteen Star Flag — the flag of the United States during Washington’s time — flies at this site in Bridgewater today. The township has been a crossroads of New Jersey’s history, commerce, and transportation for over 275 years. We are proud to be based here.
Martinsville is the northeastern section of Bridgewater Township — the hilly area at the foot of the Watchung Mountains, accessed by Washington Valley Road and Chimney Rock Road (ZIP 08836). It has its own post office, its own shopping center (Chimney Rock Crossing, anchored by Whole Foods and Nordstrom Rack), and a character distinct from the rest of Bridgewater: larger lots, more wooded, executive-level homes, and a strong professional household profile driven by the nearby Verizon Wireless campus.
We know Martinsville’s housing stock intimately: the 1980s and 1990s executive colonials on the ridge, the newer construction near Chimney Rock Road, the older farmhouses on Washington Valley Road updated over decades. We have served every street in Martinsville and responded to emergencies there in the middle of the night. Our response from our Martinsville base to a Martinsville address is genuinely under 5 minutes.
All permits go through 100 Commons Way, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 • (908) 725-6300. Hours: Mon–Fri 9am–4:30pm. Construction Official: John Tillotson, ext. 5574 • [email protected]. Review: up to 20 working days; minor work approx. 10 days. SDL Portal available for permit status.
Bridgewater Commons at 400 Commons Way is the retail anchor of Somerset County. The Route 22 commercial strip runs east-west through the township. Finderne’s industrial zone along the Raritan River contains manufacturing and light industrial operations. And major corporate campuses — Verizon Wireless in Martinsville, pharmaceutical firms along the Route 202/206 corridor — represent some of the largest electrical loads in the county.
Commercial electrical is a major part of our Bridgewater practice. Panel capacity upgrades, equipment circuits, lighting system upgrades for retail, and code compliance for commercial tenants are all regular services. We know the Code Enforcement Department’s commercial review process at 100 Commons Way as well as we know the residential process — because we have done both, hundreds of times, in this township.
Most of Bridgewater Township is served by PSE&G (some northern sections by JCP&L). For PSE&G customers, these incentives are stackable:
For Level 2 residential charger installation through PSE&G’s EV Charging Program
State rebate for eligible Level 2 smart charger (apply within 14 days)
30% of installation costs (IRS Form 8911) through June 2026
We handle all Bridgewater permits and PSE&G/JCP&L rebate documentation. Response time: under 10 minutes from our Martinsville base. Most Bridgewater EV charger installations are completed in one day.
What Bridgewater Customers Say
“Panel upgrade and EV charger on our Martinsville colonial. They showed up in 8 minutes when I first called with a tripped breaker. Gave us an honest assessment of the 1989 panel — said we needed the upgrade before adding the EV circuit, explained exactly why, and did both jobs together in one permit. PSE&G rebate filed same day. These are genuinely local guys and it shows in everything.”
Homeowner — Martinsville, Bridgewater Township
“I own a commercial property on Route 22 in Bridgewater. Needed a major panel upgrade for expanded tenant load. They pulled the commercial permit through 100 Commons Way, coordinated the inspection with John Tillotson’s office, and were done inside our timeline. No surprises. They understand how commercial permitting works in Bridgewater because they’ve done it a hundred times.”
