Low Voltage & Structured Cabling

Infrastructure That Lasts — Installed Right the First Time

Poor cabling infrastructure is one of the most expensive problems a commercial property can have. Unmanaged cable runs, wrong cable categories, improper terminations, and lack of documentation create network outages, security failures, and complete rip-and-replace costs during tenant turnover. Done right the first time, structured cabling lasts 15–20 years and supports every technology upgrade in between.

Our licensed commercial electrical team handles all low voltage work in-house — meaning we don’t subcontract it to a company that doesn’t understand the electrical side of the building. We coordinate power, data, and low voltage as an integrated system. Every installation follows TIA-568 structured cabling standards, and every run is tested, documented, and labeled.

We serve offices, medical facilities, retail, restaurants, warehouses, new construction builds, and tenant improvement fit-outs throughout Bridgewater, NJ and Somerset County. Whether you need a single data drop added to an existing office or a complete structured cabling infrastructure for a new 50,000 sq ft commercial build, we deliver the same standard of care.

📏

Cable Management & Remediation

Existing cable plant in disarray? We audit, test, label, and organize existing infrastructure — eliminating ghost cables, documenting active runs, and replacing underperforming segments. Essential before any office renovation or tenant improvement project.

Cabling Standards

Choosing the Right Cable for Your Application

Not all cabling is the same. We specify the right cable for your application, budget, and future needs — and explain why.

Horizontal Runs — Standard

Cat6 UTP

The current commercial standard for horizontal data runs. Supports 10 Gbps at up to 55 meters, 1 Gbps to 100 meters. Suitable for virtually all workstation, VoIP, and wireless AP applications in typical commercial office environments. Backward compatible with all 10/100/1000Base-T equipment.

Best for: Offices, Retail, Medical, Most Commercial TI

High-Performance or Dense Environments

Cat6A UTP/STP

Cat6A supports full 10 Gbps to 100 meters and is required for PoE+ and PoE++ high-power applications (cameras, APs, phones). Shielded (STP) versions are recommended near high-voltage equipment or in industrial environments. Required for healthcare environments under ANSI/TIA-1179.

Best for: Healthcare, Data Centers, High-Power PoE, Industrial

Backbone & Long-Haul

Fiber Optic (OM4/OS2)

Fiber is required for backbone runs over 100 meters, inter-building connections, and environments where electromagnetic interference would degrade copper performance. Multi-mode OM4 supports 100 Gbps to 150 meters. Single-mode OS2 supports 100+ Gbps over kilometers. Immune to EMI and lightning.

Best for: Campus Backbones, Inter-Building, Data Centers, Industrial

Our Process

How We Handle Commercial Low Voltage Projects

From planning through certified testing — a clean, documented installation every time.

1
Assessment & Design

We review your floor plan, identify all drop locations, design the cabling pathway, and specify cable categories. Written quote with itemized scope provided.

2
Infrastructure & Rough-In

Conduit installation (where required), cable pathways through walls and above ceilings, and J-hook or cable tray support systems installed.

3
Pull, Terminate & Dress

All cable runs pulled, terminated at patch panels and face plates, professionally dressed, and labeled at both ends per your naming convention.

4
Test, Document & Hand Off

Every run tested to TIA-568 standards with a Fluke cable certifier. Pass/fail test reports provided for every port, along with as-built documentation and cable schedule.

Common Questions

Low Voltage Wiring FAQs

Low voltage wiring refers to cabling that carries data signals rather than electrical power — typically at voltages below 50V. In commercial buildings this includes: structured data cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A), fiber optic backbone cabling, security camera (CCTV/IP) wiring, access control door wiring, VoIP and phone system cabling, AV and conferencing wiring, and wireless AP drops.
Yes. In New Jersey, low voltage wiring in commercial buildings must be installed by or under the direct supervision of a licensed electrician. We hold a valid NJ Master Electrician license that covers both power and low voltage work. This is important when selecting a low voltage contractor — unlicensed installers create liability issues that affect your certificate of occupancy and insurance coverage.
Structured cabling in Bridgewater, NJ typically runs $150–$300 per Cat6 data drop for standard commercial installations, including cable, hardware, termination, labeling, and Fluke test certification. A small office of 10–25 drops runs $2,000–$6,000. Larger offices of 25–75 drops run $5,000–$18,000. We provide free written estimates based on your actual floor plan and drop count.
Cat6 supports 10 Gbps at up to 55 meters (1 Gbps to 100 meters) and is appropriate for most commercial office environments. Cat6A supports the full 10 Gbps to 100 meters, handles higher-power PoE applications (important for newer wireless APs and IP cameras), and is required in healthcare environments per ANSI/TIA-1179. For new installations, we often recommend Cat6A as the marginal cost difference is small relative to the 10–15 year infrastructure life.
Yes — and we strongly recommend it for tenant improvement fit-outs. Handling power, data, and low voltage under one contractor eliminates scheduling conflicts between trades, ensures conduit and pathways are shared intelligently, and reduces total project cost. We coordinate all three scopes as a single integrated project.
Yes. Every structured cabling installation we complete includes full Fluke DSX or equivalent cable certification testing on every run, with pass/fail reports for each port. We provide complete as-built documentation including cable schedule, patch panel maps, and test reports — everything your IT team and future building owners need.
